Programs
At The Village Development Center, we are proud to bring decades of combined expertise to the work we do. Experience in fields including education, mental health, criminal justice, substance abuse, law enforcement, finance, and youth development. This depth of knowledge drives the heart of our mission: to equip and empower the next generation.
Like many nonprofits, we’ve faced challenges in securing sustainable funding—but we’re growing smarter and stronger every year. We’re excited to relaunch and expand our five transformative programs designed to support, educate, and inspire young people in our community. Each program is structured to meet real needs, build real skills, and foster real opportunity.
CHAT & CHEW FAMILY NIGHT
We provide dinner and educational topics for families. Previous topics have been: Test Taking, Family Communication, Mental Health Awareness. We meet on the 3rd Thursday of each month at 6:30 P.M. until 8:00 P.M.
We are currently accepting applications for the current school year. The after-school program is held at 600 E. Franklin Street., Monroe, N.C. Our days of operation are Monday thru Friday from 2:00 to 6:30 for elementary school age children. Our focus is EDUCATION, CHARACTER DEVELOPMENT, SERVICE and LOTS OF FUN!!!
I AM MOVEMENT for Young Men is a program of The Village Development Center whose four areas of focus are SCHOLARSHIP, MENTALITY, HERITAGE AND SERVICE. The Empowerment Team is open to middle and high school young men of color. T.E.T. meets every third Saturday of the month from 11:00am-2:00 pm.
I AM Charm School for Young Women is a program of The Village Development Center whose four areas of focus are SCHOLARSHIP, CHARACTER, FEMININITY and SERVICE. The Charm Club is open to middle and high school young women of color. T.C.C. meets every second Saturday of the month from 11:00-2:00 pm.
I AM MOVEMENT Summer Camp is open to elementary school students for 8 weeks of learning, fun and exciting opportunities. Registration ends on the First Friday in the month of June each year. Space is limited.
